    Sukhbir (Sony) Singh, MD, FRCSC, FACOG

    Sony is a Canadian leader in minimally invasive gynecology education, patient care, and innovative surgical techniques. He is currently the Chief of the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Newborn Care at The Ottawa Hospital and Professor and Chair, of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Ottawa.

    Teresa is currently a Senior Clinical Research Associate within OMIG and at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute. With her help we have been able to facilitate investigator led, industry and basic science research studies with our research team as well as the Department of Radiology 3D Printing, AI and Machine Learning Team.

    Nicki El-Bouchi, Clinical Research Assistant III

    Nicki El-Bouchi is a Clinical Research Assistant III at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute and a Master of Science student in Interdisciplinary Health Sciences at the University of Ottawa. She earned her Honours Bachelor of Health Science with a minor in Life Sciences and a specialization in Population and Public Health from the University of Ottawa in 2022.

  • Julia Mandeville, PhD MPH CHES®, Postdoctoral Research Fellow

    Julia is a currently a Post Doctoral Research Fellow within OMIG and at the University of Ottawa in the Faculty of Medicine. She is an engaged scholar specializing in women’s health, stigma, and health equity with an acute interest in improved quality of life outcomes for underrepresented populations. She recently earned her PhD in Public Health from George Mason University, USA, specializing in Social and Behavioral Sciences and earned her MPH in 2017 from the University of Manchester, UK, in Global Health.

    Jessica is an undergraduate student in the Honours Health Sciences program at McMaster University. This is her second summer working with the OMIG Team where she helps curate online presence and supports ongoing research activities. She is passionate about healthcare communication and is excited to contribute to research that improves care delivery.

  • Assweni Gowrishanker, Clinical Research Assistant I

    Assweni is responsible for supporting a couple studies focused on better understanding endometriosis, with the long-term goal of improving care for impacted patients. Additionally, she is a master’s student in the Clinical Science and Translational Medicine program at the University of Ottawa, where her research centers around endometriosis and infertility. 

  • Bizav Jaffer, Research Assistant I

    Bizav is a medical student at the University of Ottawa with interests in women’s health, health systems improvement, and clinical research. She completed an Honours Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science at the University of Ottawa and has experience contributing to a range of health research, education, and quality improvement initiatives. Through her work with the Equity in Health Systems Lab at the Bruyère Research Institute, she supported projects aimed at advancing equity in healthcare and health professions education. Bizav has also contributed to published research in artificial intelligence in healthcare, health professions education, and neuroscience. This summer, she is excited to be part of the OMIG team as a research student and contribute to research focused on improving women’s health and gynecologic care.

  • Layli Tanara, Clinical Research Assistant II

    Layli is a medical student at the University of Ottawa with a strong passion for women’s health and an interest in pursuing a career in obstetrics and gynecology. She completed an Honours degree in Biomedical Science (Extended French Stream) from the University of Ottawa in 2022, where she pursued research through an NSERC-USRA. This is her second summer working with Dr. Singh and his team as a research student, focusing on access to endometriosis care, and she’s very thrilled to be part of the team.

    Kate Melanson is a current undergraduate student at Carleton University studying Health Sciences. She is passionate about the intersection of women’s health, health technology, and the research and practice of medicine. Her dedication to these fields is reflected in her work this summer with virtual reality quality improvement projects aimed at enhancing patient care.
