Ottawa GynePath Biobank

The Ottawa GynePath Biobank aims to enhance the study of gynecologic diseases in order to improve our understanding of the pathobiology, treatment and prevention options. This biobank will be comprised of samples and data from patients at The Ottawa Hospital who have been affected by a gynecologic pathology such as endometriosis, uterine fibroids, adenomyosis, endometrial and ovarian cancer. Researchers who access samples and data from the Ottawa GynePath Biobank will study new ways to detect, treat and prevent gynecologic pathologies.

SUNFLOWER Trial

A multi-center group study evaluating the proportion of women with complete resolution of nonatypical endometrial hyperplasia (NAEH) when treated with Mirena or oral Medroxyprogesterone acetate for 6 months. The primary objective is to determine the efficacy of Mirena in the treatment of NAEH. The growing obesity epidemic, the potential desire for fertility-sparing treatments, the recognition of varying rates of malignant transformation, medical comorbidities, and an aging population all may factor into decisions to employ nonsurgical treatment modalities.

EMPRESS Registry

The purpose of the study is to prospectively evaluate fetal, maternal, and infant outcomes among women exposed to Ubrelvy or Qulipta (migraine treatment medication) during pregnancy. This data will help us understand the possible effects ubrogepant or atogepant might have on pregnancy, delivery, and the health of babies.

CANDLELIGHT Trial

This research study is being done to learn more about how a medicine called fezolinetant (VEOZAH®) works in real-life settings. Fezolinetant is a medicine being studied to help reduce bothersome hot flashes and night sweats (also known as vasomotor symptoms, or “VMS”) in women going through menopause. This study is being done to better understand patient experiences with fezolinetant for management of bothersome VMS related to menopause in the real world.

EndomiR Commercialization Study

This study is a commercialization study designed to optimize accuracy of biomarkers in persons experiencing chronic pelvic pain with symptoms of endometriosis. An accurate diagnostic test offered by a primary care physician would allow earlier detection and referral to a gynecologist for treatment, resulting in less pain, higher quality of life for patients and reduced demand on limited health care resources.

Biobank Perception Survey

While there have been some large-scale examinations of public awareness and attitudes toward biobank participation in China, most people in Europe and the United States are unaware of biobanks. A better understanding of patient perceptions for biobanking in a gynecology population is required to inform biobanking recruitment and retention processes, as well as increase the trust and access to information among participants.
